King of Bugisu Umukuka Jude Mike Mudoma flags off Timothy Gawaya during autocross

Bugisu has become the latest cultural institution in Uganda to embrace motorsport, joining the ranks of Bunyoro, Buganda, Busoga, and Tooro Kingdoms, which have long supported and organized motorsport rallies in their respective regions.

This year, Bunyoro Kingdom is at the heart of the UMOSPOC Kabalega Rally, scheduled for October 21–23 in Hoima City and Kikuube Districts.

On Saturday, Bugisu’s King, Umukuka Jude Mike Mudoma, officially flagged off the FIM Central Africa Enduro Championship and Autocross Championship at Court View Hotel in Mbale, marking a significant milestone for Eastern Uganda’s motorsport scene.

During the event, Umukuka Mudoma called on the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) to establish a regional office in Mbale to help mobilize and promote the sport across the Eastern region.

He emphasized that while football is known for its many fans, motorsport attracts thousands who significantly impact the economic life of the community. He appealed to motorsport leaders to open an office in the region and actively promote the sport.

His remarks signaled a strong invitation for sports federations to collaborate with cultural institutions, enabling access to land and the development of essential facilities that can drive the sport’s growth.

In the competition, Edison Mugyereza emerged victorious in the Autocross event after a tight contest with Ian Bachu. Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Samatir Xavier claimed the Enduro Championship title, which featured a limited number of participants.
