Evas Nasasira came in 8th position in the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10km race, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Wednesday.
Nasasira was one of three Ugandans who competed in the annual run, having qualified for the event as one of the top runners from the annual Absa Kampala Hash Harrier Seven Hills Run, held in March at the Millennium Grounds in Lugogo. The rest were Brian Adams Ategeka, and Collins Cherotich.
Nasasira, who competed in the women’s 20-34 years category, ran the 10km with an average time of 3.45 minutes per kilometer, finishing in 0:37:21, 3.38 minutes behind the winner, South Africa TUCS AC running club’s Karabo Mailula, who came first in 0:33:44. Kenyan Florence Nyaingiri came second in 00:35:17, with Zimbabwean Rutendo Nyahora of Hollywood Athletics Club International finishing third in 00:36:35.
On their part, Ategeka and Cherotich, who naturally excel in long-distance running, finished the 10km race in 0:29:45 and 0:41:00, respectively, and placed outside the top ten in the event, which attracted thousands of runners from different nationalities.
South African Boxer Superstores’ Kabelo Mulaudzi won the event in 00:28:39 ahead of Tanzanian Emanuel Dinday and another South African Bennett Seloyi, who finished in 00:28:45 and 00:28:51, respectively.
The Absa Run Your City Joburg 10k was founded in 2016 and celebrates the splendour of the ‘City of Gold’. Runners (and walkers) are treated to a 10km journey that highlights iconic landmarks and features lively performances by a host of Joburg’s leading performing arts groups.
