Ntare make headway at Cricket Week

St John's High Kauga and Busoga College Mwiri remain unbeaten and top of Group A and Group B respectively.

But Ntare, who have one loss in five games, may be enjoying just as impressive a campaign at the UCA Sky View 2025 Boys Schools Cricket Week as anyone else.

Ntare sent Jinja SS crashing to a five-wicket win three days ago, a result that might have passed for a reflection of the weaknesses of reigning champions more than the strengths of the victor.

But after yesterday's pulsating two-wicket win over Central Region winners Shree Sahajanand, Ntare must be taken as a genuine title threat. Ethan Tajo’s explosive 39, Darren Ampaire’s 35, and Ignitious Mwesigwa's 20 allowed Ntare to chase down a target that seemed daunting at first and then, following a flurry of lost wickets at the start of their innings, imprombable.

Ntare's sole defeat was inflicted by St. John's High, Kauga, who have a 6-0 record identical to Mwiri's. How long both front runners can keep up their dominace is a huge point of focus at the 17-team tournament.

But so are the journeys of other contenders like Ntare, St John's Secondary School, Mukono, Sahanajand, Jinja SS, Masindi Secondary School and hosts Nyakasura.
