Rotaractors have been urged to partner with corporate sponsors to address community needs.

Rotary District 9213 Governor-elect Gerald Obai says addressing community needs requires financial resources, and partnering with corporate sponsors can provide the necessary support to serve vulnerable communities effectively.

To help communities overcome their challenges, Obai advises Rotaractors to conduct a needs assessment to identify the real needs affecting people.

“Do not decide for yourself what you want to do for a particular community; go to the community, engage them and find out what they consider their most pressing needs. Sometimes, you may think they need water, yet they need to be empowered economically, or need something related to disease prevention and treatment,” Obai says.

He made the remarks on November 1, 2025, during the charter celebrations and first presidential installation of the Rotaract E-Club of Kampala North held at Roza Dymz Restaurant in Kololo.

The club installed their first charter president, Salima Tusaba Nanyanzi and also inducted new members.

Though Rotaract E-Club of Kampala North is new, because of their commitment and dedication to support those in need, they were ranked third out of 140 clubs.

The charter celebrations were graced by the District Governor Elect, District Rotaract Representatives, Rotarians and Rotaractors

“Since Rotary has seven areas of focus through which you can serve the community, as a new club, I know there will be challenges, but don’t hesitate to seek support from your mother clubs. They will provide a foundation for you to serve the community effectively,” Obai said.

During the induction of new members, Salima Tusaba, the first president for the Rotaract E club of Kampala North, appreciated members for giving her an opportunity to serve humanity and also lead as their first president.

Tusaba said, 31 members have been chartered, including three active members and five honorary members, with plans to increase the numbers.

“I am delighted to be the first president of this club, and I pledge to work with my club members to create more impact in our communities. As Rotaractors, it is us to create value in our community, putting service above self,” Tusaba stated.

“Although this is a new club, we are eager to make a difference in the communities. As an online club, we have strategies in place to keep members committed. Currently, we do video calls, have quarterly home hospitalities for club members to bond and know each other.”

To make an impact in communities, Tusaba said the club will conduct physical outreach projects in the different communities. Adding that recently, they had a project at UMEA primary school in Lubugumu, where members generously contributed to buy scholastic materials, success cards and sanitary towels for pupils.
