RWENZORI - Police say joint security operations are still underway in the Rwenzori region following co-ordinated attacks on several security installations on November 1, 2025.

Addressing the media on Monday, November 3, at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the situation has since been contained, but operations to track down remaining suspects continue.

“We had a co-ordinated attack on a number of security installations in the Rwenzori region. The operations are still going on,” Kituuma said, adding: As the chief spokesperson of the Police force, I am not yet ready to give you detailed statistics because every day we are receiving updates.”

He said security agencies, including the Police, military, and intelligence services, are conducting extensive combing operations and interrogations and that investigators have already made several arrests linked to the attacks.

“Security agencies are still doing a lot of combing. Interrogations are ongoing. We have good leads.  But I request that you be patient as we consolidate verified information before releasing official statistics,” he added.

The Police spokesperson confirmed that there were casualties and injuries among security personnel during the exchange but declined to provide figures, saying formal updates would be issued after ongoing field assessments.

“There were fatalities and injuries on the side of security agencies, but that is as far as I can communicate for now,” he said.

Kituuma also condemned acts of mob justice that were reported in some parts of the Rwenzori region, where angry residents attacked individuals suspected of involvement in the incident.

“Most people want to call it mob justice, but it is not justice at all,” he cautioned, adding that some members of the public took the law into their own hands against individuals they suspected of being part of the attacks.

"We appeal to the public not to take the law into their hands. If you suspect someone, report to the nearest security office. Do not attack or harm them".

Extrajudicial killing allegations

He also confirmed that a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing a security officer shooting at a suspect, is under investigation.

“That video is under scrutiny and analysis. Once we have the appropriate analytical results, we shall communicate,” Kituuma told reporters.

Kituuma reassured the public that the situation was under control and urged residents of Rwenzori and neighbouring regions to remain calm and continue with their daily activities.

“We managed to counter this threat, and I can firmly confirm that we suppressed it,l. Let people be calm, let there be no anxiety, and let them go on with their normal activities,” he said.

The police further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and share any credible information with security agencies in confidence.

“If anyone has information that can help us, please reach out to any security agent and share it in confidence. We shall treat it with the seriousness it deserves,” Kituuma said, adding that authorities appreciate the cooperation shown so far by residents in Rwenzori.
