SC Villa eye third straight win as Kitara visit FUFA Stadium

SC Villa will be seeking a third successive victory in the Uganda Premier League this season when they host in-form Kitara FC today at FUFA Stadium in Mengo.

The Jogoos who are currently sixth on the table with seven points from four games, come into this floodlight encounter full of confidence after a convincing 3-0 away win over Buhimba United Saints last Friday at the Royals Park Stadium in Butema.

That result followed their 2-1 home triumph against Police FC, and Villa will now be targeting both a third straight league win and a second consecutive home victory.

Winger Reagan Mpande, who impressed for the Uganda Cranes at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), rediscovered his scoring touch against Buhimba with a brace and is expected to once again spearhead Villa’s attack alongside forward Charles Lwanga, the match-winner in their previous home fixture against Police.

Despite Villa’s strong run, head coach Zeljko Kovacevic insists his side is still a work in progress.

“It has been a good performance in the last games but we still need to work hard. There are many things we have to fix, and it will take time,” the Serbian tactician said.

Kovacevic also addressed concerns over the absence of key midfielder Patrick Kakande, who has missed all of Villa’s opening league fixtures.

“Patrick is a good player, a national team player. I cannot bench him. He came back from the national team with an injury, that is why he is not playing but once he recovers, he will play,” he clarified while meeting club supporters last week.

Meanwhile, visitors Kitara who are coached by a former Villa tactician Wasswa Bbosa will arrive in Kampala equally motivated, having recorded back-to-back home victories over Mbarara City (3-2) and Lugazi FC (4-0). The Royals occupy fifth place on the log, level on seven points with Villa but ahead on goal difference.

In the day’s early kick-off at Bombo Barracks Grounds in Luwero, UPDF FC will host fellow forces side Police FC.

The Peace Keepers will be aiming to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat to URA FC, while the Cops who are fresh from a 2-1 home win over Maroons will be targeting consecutive league wins for the first time this season.
