St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) kicked off the 2025 Clash of the Titans Golf Tournament in style, seizing early bragging rights after a commanding round one performance at the par-72 Kitante course on Saturday.
As the opening round wrapped up, SMACK surged to the top of the men’s leaderboard with 357 points, edging out their long-time rivals Namilyango College by just six points.
Hot on their heels were Ntare School (339), Nyakasura (337), King’s College Budo (335), Mwiri College (325), and Kigezi High School (324), all within striking distance.

Defending champions Bweranyangi Girls took charge with 110 points, nine ahead of Mary Hill (101), Gayaza (97) as Namagunga (69) settled for third and fourth, respectively.
SMACK's strong showing came thanks to players like Paul Habyarimana, Brian Manyindo, Richard Mugisha, Louis Tumukunde, Richard Oloka, Nathan Mubiru, Herbert Kamuntu, Jacob Byamukama and Paul Katuramu, amongst others. They will now be hoping to wrap up this year’s championship during the second leg of the event due on September 29 at Entebbe Club. Unlike previous editions that were played over one leg, this year’s action will be played over two legs with the second to be played in Entebbe on September 29 before the overall winner for the fourth edition is determined.
The fourth year of this yearly gathering, backed by Hima Cement, really delivered on its promise to be a proper celebration of old boys' pride, school loyalty, and brilliant golf. Nearly 200 golfers from more than 43 different groups took on the 18-hole challenge in what's become the go-to event for bringing together Uganda's established schools in a mix of friendship and friendly rivalry.

In the lady’s category, Berna Musanabera (41 points) emerged overall winner, edging out Jackie Kwesiga (40pts) and Lilian Koowe (38pts). Veteran golfer Denis Akakunda (36) triumphed in the Seniors’ category as Lawrence Walakira and Gloria Mbaguta claimed the men’s and ladies’ side bets of the longest drives as David Batanda earned the men’s Nearest to the Pin accolade.
Hima Cement Chief Finance Officer, Moses Aman, underscored the sponsor’s commitment to community building through events like this, saying:
“We are known for building communities and the economy. Supporting a tournament like this—which unites alumni from schools across the country—reflects our spirit of fostering connections. Golf is a sport that bridges generations, from children to octogenarians, and we’re proud to be part of that journey.” Aman stated.
