Isingiro SS (pink) beat St Augustine 2-0 in their opening game

Defending champions Boni Consilii (Isingiro) made a thunderous statement on the opening day of the USSSA Ankole Zone girls football championship in Bushenyi district, demolishing debutants Maria Girls (Rubirizi) 14-0 in Wednesday's most lopsided encounter.

Despite fielding their second-string squad - having rested their U17 Teen Cranes stars recently eliminated from FIFA World Cup qualifiers by Kenya - the national U16 champions displayed ruthless efficiency.

Sheila Mungutimi led the carnage with four goals, supported by Precious Atukunda and Annitah Mbabazi's hat-tricks, while Catherine Natuhwera (brace) and Beatrice Naluwoza completed the humiliation.

Other notable results saw Nyabubare SS and Sheema Girls - former title holders - both register 5-0 victories against Kashaka Girls and St. Benedict's respectively. The day's biggest upset came from rural Mujuni Foundation, who edged Ntungamo champions Five Star 1-0, while Kitagata SS stunned former national representatives Bishop Ogez 3-0.
